Although I specialize in creating beautiful treasures from broken china, my first love is stained glass. By day I'm a legal assistant and by night you can find me either in the garage cutting and grinding or inside soldering. I love working with broken china and incorporating it into various projects along with glass.Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.comBlogger25125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-36385673712348182732010-11-22T07:52:00.000-08:002010-11-22T07:52:52.051-08:00It's Show Time ~ Again!!For my readers who live in the Tallahassee area, I'll be doing one show before Christmas at the DowntownMarket's "Just One More" event on Saturday, December 11. Later this week, I'll be posting a few teaser pictures of some of the items I've been working on.Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-36630704026107252712010-11-09T12:56:00.000-08:002010-11-09T13:09:02.690-08:00Refurbishing a Patio TableAs I promised, here is the latest BIG project I did this past summer. <br />
<div><div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp-VrDcHPShArsuqrJXtyvG5f94Y3AeMwWWcf1ak1yVhYexk2bPYvqHuS_8I2vHX7u1uEWjs-qcC-Mvhhc5021tvlnTMD0WdZtqCVkveb7pBSNQDT7xLo0cdzZnR2RQENCWmc92FqB1M-D/s1600/100_5005.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535778780946833282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp-VrDcHPShArsuqrJXtyvG5f94Y3AeMwWWcf1ak1yVhYexk2bPYvqHuS_8I2vHX7u1uEWjs-qcC-Mvhhc5021tvlnTMD0WdZtqCVkveb7pBSNQDT7xLo0cdzZnR2RQENCWmc92FqB1M-D/s320/100_5005.jpg" style="float: left; height: 240px; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 320px;" /></a> Here is the before photo of our patio table. As you can see, there really isn't anything wrong with it (except that it's really drab). It's still in good shape and looks decent enough. But we had always talked about mosaicing it and decided we wanted to show our team spirit in the process. So, we went with a Seminole head in the center and some type of border that would be decided later (I don't usually wing it when it comes to designs, but I had trouble envisioning anything and just dove right in). This kind of indecision makes me procrastinate more than I should!</div><div><br />
Throughout this post I'll show you the steps I took to use stained glass to mosaic my design on this table. The tabletop is a composite wood product which contained a laminate surface on the top and bottom. Since the table had been exposed to the weather for at least 10 years and still showed no sign of wear, warping or swelling, I decided I could mosaic right on the surface. Some people suggested replacing the top with concrete board, but that presented more problems than I was willing to deal with and I just went ahead with my plan.</div><br />
<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrPJ7PN7PbVmyGNn7p2IVNEfLdSzeQisj_jAisEjr9p_U23zMS5tVyH7WAkyCMFVHeEcF433t4VVmNTeaEmXU4kJVHVtC_nd6jl8MEb_sUSoLFDmVpeGJ1MRk5m1sQ93Hezwim-gkrsS03/s1600/100_5017.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535781596292645602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrPJ7PN7PbVmyGNn7p2IVNEfLdSzeQisj_jAisEjr9p_U23zMS5tVyH7WAkyCMFVHeEcF433t4VVmNTeaEmXU4kJVHVtC_nd6jl8MEb_sUSoLFDmVpeGJ1MRk5m1sQ93Hezwim-gkrsS03/s320/100_5017.jpg" style="cursor: hand; float: left; height: 187px; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 284px;" /></a>The first thing I had to do was patch the umbrella hole. I taped a piece of cardboard over the hole on the top of the table and put it top down on the patio. Then I used a spray insulation and filled the hole. My thinking was that I would have a smooth surface on the top after removing the cardboard and would be able to just cut the excess from the bottom.</div><br />
<div>Actually I thought that was pretty logical thinking until I removed the cardboard from the top. Of course, the insulation stuck to the cardboard and some of the insulation came off. I didn't completely freak out and decided that when I started to mosaic, I would just fill in with thinset. It ended up being a pretty easy fix!!</div><div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6oKawj43mpPkiau3EW7ADHTKIkThCnL0QMnoLbL7ah-p9HL-kyAvopAaxH2kHDNJAvViFjsVlxmb1zKp3xb08IiJolCNAe8vpp_YtPBOOKtfFtJbxxTFyA96lF-6xQhZooCt8RgJvMjVt/s1600/100_5000.jpg" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535782548051984578" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6oKawj43mpPkiau3EW7ADHTKIkThCnL0QMnoLbL7ah-p9HL-kyAvopAaxH2kHDNJAvViFjsVlxmb1zKp3xb08IiJolCNAe8vpp_YtPBOOKtfFtJbxxTFyA96lF-6xQhZooCt8RgJvMjVt/s320/100_5000.jpg" style="float: left; height: 245px; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 323px;" /></a>Here's a picture of my initial pattern. I think the cartoon looks a little childish but in the back of my mind there was some vision there and, most importantly, a border plan. I did enlarge the center medallion a little and really thought I would use this border (more on that later).</div></div><br />

It's a little difficult to see in this picture, but you can see the outline of the Seminole head drawn on the table. (Click on the pics to enlarge and see more detail).</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">Now, it's time to get down and dirty with the real work! I had gathered all my materials: glass, glass cutter, wheeled nippers, thinset, containers for mixing, a jug of water and various and sundry tools that I thought I would need. Oh, and let's not forget the band-aids!!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

Thankfully, I started this project on Labor Day weekend, Mr. Man was working and I had the whole day to myself. I had anticipated getting a little further along, but I was a little slow to start, I guess.<br />
<br />
<div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">After working with the table at regular height, my back was killing me! I had some bed risers that I use for my tables at shows and put them under the table legs. Worked well, but it still wasn't tall enough. Mr. Man had a great idea to put my folded show table under the risers and it worked perfectly! If you ever decide to do this type of project, be sure you can raise your work surface to a comfortable height. You'll be glad you did!!</div><br />

Whatever it takes to get those little pieces perfectly situated!<br />

Here's what I finished the first weekend (with several breaks, a football game and a family get-together). I was quite pleased with my progress so far. I didn't think that was too bad! </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"></div><br />

<br />
<br />
Of course, with projects this large, I have trouble just stopping and picking up later. The total project took me 3 weeks and I worked on it in the evenings and weekends every minute I could fit in there. Of course, this meant that I was working in the dark sometimes and since I don't have a real shop to work in, I was outside under the patio (thank goodness for good weather). Although my radio kept me company, it was still a little scary after dark. </div><br />
<div>Until I started this project, I didn't realize that we had a resident 'possum! Every night about dark-thirty, that little rascal would come sneaking out of the little creek (a/k/a ditch) beside our property and stroll across the lawn. A little freaky the first couple of times I saw him, but I considered him company after a while!!!<br />

I talked about adding a little something to take up all that white space (like "FSU" or a feather or tomahawk in various places), but after I got to this point, I was ready to just get the border glued down and then fill in with white. I toyed with this idea but didn't like using so many colors for the border.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

I wanted all the white tiles grouted in white and the rest in black. I first taped off the areas that would get white grout (the face, feather and background) so I could apply the black grout. I didn't completely tape off the white background area because I was sure I wouldn't go outside the taping.<br />

<div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537588946572649218" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikoUMq-iRmLSkUJ9dvvZx7f7cF0OCYkw4bp3LxhkgH1A7Q9jHzM1TDCwcELcem5oY-fIb_L9IrmI-HEtYG-xS-5y9e2PhbGsuXyRJR8ZiXD9tjrNyNWTEtviYATuK574O8TfB6v1ML6csU/s320/100_5068.jpg" style="cursor: hand; float: left; height: 240px; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 320px;" /></div>This is the scariest part of making a mosaic for me. I know the black grout will cover all my glass and will look horrible and it will appear there is no return at that point. But, after using the damp sponge and the glass starts shining through, there is an amazing transformation! Although I knew better, I didn't wear gloves during this process. Gloves just feel very clumsy to me and I thought I could just wash off the grout afterwards. Wrong!!! It took quite a bit of scrubbing with various soaps to get all that black off my hands and from around my cuticles. Yuck! Next time I'll wear gloves.<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM4apQyogOF1Maqzwe8BEagPfzsRJrWSvILr8zA93HVIu_Gc6OGe-_sQOClsMig_k5rAuYzZ8tbqF0zUsuy0V5E-C7mvEX7GIBOg9LCAT1fOHec9bUeuEHr552gqZI9PLXL059BIKPazul/s1600/100_5069.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM4apQyogOF1Maqzwe8BEagPfzsRJrWSvILr8zA93HVIu_Gc6OGe-_sQOClsMig_k5rAuYzZ8tbqF0zUsuy0V5E-C7mvEX7GIBOg9LCAT1fOHec9bUeuEHr552gqZI9PLXL059BIKPazul/s320/100_5069.jpg" width="320" /></a>Here's the table after applying and cleaning the black grout. </div><br />
<br />
<div></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Next, I had to tape off the black areas and get ready for white grout. This process just can't go fast enough for me at this point.<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkVSQDiiYgXjiTxE61TXF_JRzwHwuHEYPmOFaoo2JSstiibKdCPMsL-BE1QdEBqhnYpj4L_aYELmDSiR5uILpQ_891WrVp6TaccUtKNdoOIFZwAgywKgRMCbLx2zcxKvb6GYpgfFNYHZp3/s1600/100_5072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkVSQDiiYgXjiTxE61TXF_JRzwHwuHEYPmOFaoo2JSstiibKdCPMsL-BE1QdEBqhnYpj4L_aYELmDSiR5uILpQ_891WrVp6TaccUtKNdoOIFZwAgywKgRMCbLx2zcxKvb6GYpgfFNYHZp3/s320/100_5072.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Of course, my timing is usually a little off. The evening I was ready to spread the white grout, the "love bugs" showed up. You can see one of the little buggers at the top right (on the white tiles) in this picture. For those who don't know, "love bugs" take to the air twice a year in this area (usually May and September) and are a major pain. In addition to being a menace to car finishes, they are attracted to light colored objects (such as white tiles) and decided to make their flight when I was ready to apply my white grout!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Here's a close up of what happened after I spread the white grout and before I wiped it off. This was a pretty light season for the love bugs but still was an added distraction during grouting!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsod6K9kPCrkrwOIB9VvFMeElWJKRyAK26t2JDkSkUwronBIZTKqFgWxQjv-VwWKVJM2NAmTOfQBEg0qlIFaP12RDwBedtOVkgeyLhxPkVEb3IU-CnOc4xDb6fp_IIOeBj0vt2cU4P7qiy/s1600/100_5079.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsod6K9kPCrkrwOIB9VvFMeElWJKRyAK26t2JDkSkUwronBIZTKqFgWxQjv-VwWKVJM2NAmTOfQBEg0qlIFaP12RDwBedtOVkgeyLhxPkVEb3IU-CnOc4xDb6fp_IIOeBj0vt2cU4P7qiy/s320/100_5079.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Yes, they fly in pairs ~ read more about them <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_bug">here</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Finally, after cleaning all the grout and letting it sit for a few days, I was able to seal the grout and set the table back in its place.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I apologize for abandoning my blog and I really, really, will try to be a little more consistent in the future.<br /><br />Just to bring you up to date, I've haven't been real productive in the broken china treasures business lately. I just haven't had the motivation to really get in gear.....but....I think I may have my mojo back! I've signed up for our local Downtown Market's "Just One More" show that will be held December 11 at the heart of our downtown area. I've decided to make some small victorian inspired stained glass panels, some new and "tried and true" suncatcher designs and then I'll focus on some new jewelry ideas.<br /><br />During the past year I've been keeping a little "idea book" with me at all times. I thought I would have filled it up by now, but the ideas just aren't coming to me like I thought they would. If you're the creative type and always forget your ideas, I highly recommend using an "idea book". Mine's just a small wire bound notebook that fits in my purse and when I come across something that appeals to me I note it in my little book. It might be a picture from the internet, a necklace I saw someone wear or a dream design I had the previous night. It's a little hodgepodge of ideas that provide some needed inspiration when I get the itch to create!<br /><br />I'll post pictures shortly of the stained glass and broken china treasures I plan to take to the December show with me. Keep checking back ~ I promise I'll be posting on a more regular basis.<br /><br />P.S. I made a glass mosaic table this past summer and plan to do a blog post about it. Please come back and visit!!Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-79498319880235367252009-09-28T16:20:00.000-07:002009-09-29T10:52:47.405-07:00And the Winner is........The Fall Business Womens Expo was a lot of fun! Take a look <a href="http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/stainedglass/">here</a> to see what it's all about. There are some very creative people here that have loads of ideas and certainly don't mind sharing their secrets!<br /><br />One of the ladies was making experimental dragonflies using old silverware spoons for the body. They turned out great so I just had to make one! Friday, on my lunch hour, I went to Goodwill to find the spoons. Dadgummit, somebody already grabbed the best spoons. Hmmm, I'll have to improvise a little, so I bought a couple of knives. The handles have great charm and I'm sure I can cut them. (I was so confident, I bought 2!!) </div><div align="center"><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicUdPefpLr6La9mPltNzkzOFTN07UPfkHGqrIkwLUIsLBEeRYJhWFDt5IYRZJogjLstgqptaL3YiphYcv4Yr78XX3eXg86wCJSUicmtxOcjUX14l-yKfCEnLoTu-zBpZOxo-dJLjo4UwUi/s1600-h/knives.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 238px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381100211570846402" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicUdPefpLr6La9mPltNzkzOFTN07UPfkHGqrIkwLUIsLBEeRYJhWFDt5IYRZJogjLstgqptaL3YiphYcv4Yr78XX3eXg86wCJSUicmtxOcjUX14l-yKfCEnLoTu-zBpZOxo-dJLjo4UwUi/s400/knives.jpg" /></a> </div><br /><div align="left">Mr. Man was working late so I knew I could make these before he got home. I rushed home, ignoring my need to workout (hey, it's Friday after all), and started working. I pulled out my hacksaw and started cutting......and cutting.....and cutting. Thank goodness I have a little contraption that could hold the knives steady for me while I cut....and cut.... and cut!<br /></div><div align="left">Finally, two handles are cut off and I used a file (probably not one for metal, but it worked) and smoothed down the cut ends a little.<br /></div><br /><div align="center"><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAGVr_9EPPkAo9_wZUNzaodR5e8dtSZ2AHPbFl_8GlNhlEC1VFE4fwLFD0q3WkP_HYa0bTYrdM1BngGMup39gxA-IpSDsQ229KYEKnpfkBz7jLBDFsEi_3oitqv4qNdOxWdb32n6QATp5V/s1600-h/knives+cut.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 297px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381101605519032738" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAGVr_9EPPkAo9_wZUNzaodR5e8dtSZ2AHPbFl_8GlNhlEC1VFE4fwLFD0q3WkP_HYa0bTYrdM1BngGMup39gxA-IpSDsQ229KYEKnpfkBz7jLBDFsEi_3oitqv4qNdOxWdb32n6QATp5V/s400/knives+cut.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div align="left">Now, to pick out the glass for the wings, I think this iridized, textured glass scrap will work great!</div><div align="right"></div><br /><div align="center"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 279px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381102141638419362" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuMuuWR4iyFpS1rspn8tmQo7y_36ysXDP70s5X9x5pxr1ppRbPOrcn8ppjnj-IHnLmmKHPvtY3hZtDwlAJxpxionuaI1zs0tsWgmT3yQfJyE9jNPR-CQ0RfO0lMC3fZdvTSgnYmy0qODxr/s400/glass.jpg" /></div><br /><div align="left">This is going well and my timing is working out. I spend the rest of the evening and all day Saturday trying to come up with some way that I can attach those wings. I've seen it done with wire but I've never used that technique. So, I mull it over in my mind and on Sunday afternoon I finally think I have the patience to work on it again.</p><p align="left">Of course, I didn't take anymore pictures of the work in progress due to my previous failure. But, I did work with the wire, was able to finally get the wings attached and soldered a ring on it. But first a disclaimer ~ I apologize for the quality of the pictures. Not my best, but I was a little rushed and wanted to get these instructions on the blog promptly.<br /><br />Ok, first is a list of materials you will need:<br /><br />1. Glass. I went to the dollar store and purchased the $1 8 x 10 picture frames - with glass (some of these actually have a flimsy plastic for the glass). The glass in these inexpensive frames are usually just the right thickness for this project.<br /><br />2. Glass cutter and oil. You can use an inexpensive pencil cutter for this project.<br /><br />3. Cork backed metal ruler.<br /><br />4. Sharpie marker.<br /><br />5. Photographs, scrapbook papers, pictures from magazines, old greeting cards, dried flowers, vintage lace, vintage or new wallpaper scraps, etc. - you get the idea. Anything that you may want to put between two pieces of glass.<br /><br />6. Copper foil. I usually use 1/4" foil. For making a decorative edge, I use 1/2" foil. You can easily find this at a local stained glass shop and sometimes at a hobby shop.<br /><br />7. Pencil.<br /><br />8. Adhesive backed magnet sheets.<br /><br />That's it! Now let's get started.<br /><br />First, decide what size you want your magnets. The ones I demonstrate are 3" x 2", just because that was most economical size for the magnet sheets I bought. Make them any size you want but if you make them much larger than 3" x 2", they may be too heavy for your magnets.<br /><br />Using your ruler and Sharpie, mark your horizontal lines and score with your glass cutter along the edge of the ruler. Then turn the glass and mark your vertical lines and score those lines. Using your fingers, snap apart the glass. <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdm3Ot3bODihyw38KsEB1hOfojNTkBSfQ_FW333c08Iy4EpzxNuymUK2tZBOkZUEnqiRMKm3REwYABhQWZbepyH1LUkKWBz0gTZ4Oi9b78x1D3W_to9gxJ8d4E_aMBiIW3rzyf4BpuXX2A/s1600-h/cutting+glass.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 293px; HEIGHT: 221px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371447425581663010" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdm3Ot3bODihyw38KsEB1hOfojNTkBSfQ_FW333c08Iy4EpzxNuymUK2tZBOkZUEnqiRMKm3REwYABhQWZbepyH1LUkKWBz0gTZ4Oi9b78x1D3W_to9gxJ8d4E_aMBiIW3rzyf4BpuXX2A/s400/cutting+glass.jpg" /></a><br /><br />Now that you have your glass pieces cut to size, gather your photos and embellishment materials:<br /></div><br /><div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbEVUXjBn3NpwVodKK93VnNbD-oHqIKHPB9-H3c2fc68qJWi-tvOEhZXt8-KbNMooYGzkyo4m3s4MZDWvUqFMjhXsUCUlCjiu4LioM96hewUEwk5xqnvptGqa-pPJ80NnCZ47sJ1HdhGbw/s1600-h/gather+pictures.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 311px; HEIGHT: 238px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371468568035754530" border="0" alt="photos" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbEVUXjBn3NpwVodKK93VnNbD-oHqIKHPB9-H3c2fc68qJWi-tvOEhZXt8-KbNMooYGzkyo4m3s4MZDWvUqFMjhXsUCUlCjiu4LioM96hewUEwk5xqnvptGqa-pPJ80NnCZ47sJ1HdhGbw/s400/gather+pictures.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0IiR2-wEU6hQi5UvwaG2ueW5SiXhP5aMbBDKMAG6Fl-72cwUsQqrlwmdmrMZeZ64H7US0cVuFBAXnMHDPnVyCDaM0tMKwmZ3GHqQSK4h2PIGPHKGnqTeeDbH8LUlk7YqvRStYPjDJIuOz/s1600-h/scrapping+supplies.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 286px; HEIGHT: 237px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371468565030914914" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0IiR2-wEU6hQi5UvwaG2ueW5SiXhP5aMbBDKMAG6Fl-72cwUsQqrlwmdmrMZeZ64H7US0cVuFBAXnMHDPnVyCDaM0tMKwmZ3GHqQSK4h2PIGPHKGnqTeeDbH8LUlk7YqvRStYPjDJIuOz/s400/scrapping+supplies.jpg" /></a> </div><br /><div><br /></div><br /><div>Using your glass pieces as patterns, cut out your photos and start embellishing:</div><br /><div> </div><br /><div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMGyX3NzsoQFel7gk6yBdZAiWXiQ1-1BEnIxM0QJ8tkd_kB-fjXpxjT1elcJ32bj_X0gnF_w6EG4NZlpZ5yoDMDnMx6zw0ybZEVSn2FQOFTTLDATkDhbGz2u5J-UhHWsZa_qVqT2YBq_u3/s1600-h/cut+to+fit+glass.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 201px; HEIGHT: 239px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371470806162789538" border="0" alt="cut photo" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMGyX3NzsoQFel7gk6yBdZAiWXiQ1-1BEnIxM0QJ8tkd_kB-fjXpxjT1elcJ32bj_X0gnF_w6EG4NZlpZ5yoDMDnMx6zw0ybZEVSn2FQOFTTLDATkDhbGz2u5J-UhHWsZa_qVqT2YBq_u3/s400/cut+to+fit+glass.jpg" /></a> <img style="WIDTH: 296px; HEIGHT: 236px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371470821112069266" border="0" alt="embellish" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8_lb54OrHafBRLwiu8s4VkNDcvo4740hogdxstItuguc5kePdwnAmyTnkWE1LYxpi3dSUA6BwZItzgMym1gu_FG-7AIs9bSVSnAOw4toLAlzumAa0muzySSawNlaJbUagOAY77GtRcK3y/s400/100_3885.jpg" /> </div><br /><div align="center"> </div><br /><div align="left">To embellish the old photo above with a scalloped edge, use black construction paper and a pair of decorative scrapbook scissors as follows: </div><br /><div align="left"> </div><br /><div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNdudDR5daqbWO8yeI-wNTLfzWDINicWDO69WhlBNXZ0YIScJ_gBlIiDvKIliqIouq1MPlmyrzQ-gQyzl6_zXr_uiKlglUwLucWaQANEpUWAtFefjbcdOOXoPpCjzJAIKQUOEuYTruexy_/s1600-h/scissors+-+black+paper.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 211px; HEIGHT: 238px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371472035061808514" border="0" alt="preparing trim" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNdudDR5daqbWO8yeI-wNTLfzWDINicWDO69WhlBNXZ0YIScJ_gBlIiDvKIliqIouq1MPlmyrzQ-gQyzl6_zXr_uiKlglUwLucWaQANEpUWAtFefjbcdOOXoPpCjzJAIKQUOEuYTruexy_/s400/scissors+-+black+paper.jpg" /></a> <a href="http://not-a-real-namespace/https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEYGKyxFJ2wsz3BljcZiOxlMM9t6cxIn94-neiFJDUUssy9goE60DpYabSJ-W_Nt1Yy2Othf5Ld2_VfdscUUostL_c_Y4rA6BuLgRP2KZJmmz5mguvwJE__BZ1DEXsjTST3PL7wwqgYqA9/s1600-h/glue+border.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 307px; HEIGHT: 238px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371472044650777058" border="0" alt="photo trimmed" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEYGKyxFJ2wsz3BljcZiOxlMM9t6cxIn94-neiFJDUUssy9goE60DpYabSJ-W_Nt1Yy2Othf5Ld2_VfdscUUostL_c_Y4rA6BuLgRP2KZJmmz5mguvwJE__BZ1DEXsjTST3PL7wwqgYqA9/s400/glue+border.jpg" /></a> </div><br /><div align="center"> </div><br /><div align="left">After you have your photos embellished, clean your glass using a glass cleaner and dry well. I create broken china jewelry and now I'm ready to share my secrets so you can make your own. I'm not crazy. I just know there are so many talented people that want to make their own broken china jewelry but don't know where to start. I now have the solution for you. I've created an e-book that will show you step by step how to make your own jewelry and, you still have time to order the book, create your own pendants or ornaments and cross off those hard to buy for people on your holiday list.<br /><br />In this book you will learn two different methods of cutting and shaping your china. I'll also show you how to foil, solder and finish your pendants or ornaments. This is such a fun art project and can be very personal. I'm sure you have some old china or know of the china patterns that your grandmothers may have treasured. Some of it may be chipped or cracked and is so precious you can't throw it away but there is nothing else you can do with it. Make it into keepsake jewelry or ornaments!<br /><br />This e-book contains 36 pages of detailed instruction and almost 100 photographs to guide you. Also, I'm always available by e-mail to answer any questions that may come along.<br /><br />Go to my Etsy shop <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5910489">here</a> to order your copy ~ <br /><br /><br />Also, I am putting together a great tutorial for making these personalized photo magnets.<br /> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTBoCpV_yxRFp0lfVYGdPIBuozGyDRSjFX0S3WmZiJ3yHRb12tjUr9ToWETGaxQT2b6TBuxjuGtyCOX6rGGatqcXm-OwhxWswxUUevimZtZ_kbhAG9E5sdCOd7XUQNMn2rfXTV1UV_uzf7/s1600-h/alyx+magnet.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 291px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTBoCpV_yxRFp0lfVYGdPIBuozGyDRSjFX0S3WmZiJ3yHRb12tjUr9ToWETGaxQT2b6TBuxjuGtyCOX6rGGatqcXm-OwhxWswxUUevimZtZ_kbhAG9E5sdCOd7XUQNMn2rfXTV1UV_uzf7/s400/alyx+magnet.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368516248226201074" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6TLEH-He2mHOErl0hjDMK4NGBsEWpbOpS4TYFNtrV6CGyVDVVYUD4-7PPCH0ax9MqjI1c79ZvmdeucTdL8vCS7FsL4_X6IC19z57MXt9CVJ_wyLh1-WUhGPfDg5qu0awyiwxbx5BfAlB6/s1600-h/mom-dad+magnet.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 230px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6TLEH-He2mHOErl0hjDMK4NGBsEWpbOpS4TYFNtrV6CGyVDVVYUD4-7PPCH0ax9MqjI1c79ZvmdeucTdL8vCS7FsL4_X6IC19z57MXt9CVJ_wyLh1-WUhGPfDg5qu0awyiwxbx5BfAlB6/s320/mom-dad+magnet.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368516725773195666" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4pTnBXVjFUdEsVbyhDBEgbPiamV8DWG6L71XoZpplTzAhp0FbftjyzouOcToMzFP_kssE5_q7hWWtHm4DmSa_c-Z0dKRXp9nTfAuPg2rfEqOTrRlfHFll8K20oeFKzhshi8hy8lX9UKnY/s1600-h/tyson+magnet.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 280px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4pTnBXVjFUdEsVbyhDBEgbPiamV8DWG6L71XoZpplTzAhp0FbftjyzouOcToMzFP_kssE5_q7hWWtHm4DmSa_c-Z0dKRXp9nTfAuPg2rfEqOTrRlfHFll8K20oeFKzhshi8hy8lX9UKnY/s400/tyson+magnet.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368516918823377266" /></a><br /> <br />Check back soon. You see, I've been extremely busy. I'm going to reveal a little something about myself ~ I'm a chronic procrastinator. No, I'm not proud of that, but when you find out what I've been doing, you'll see why I'm so late with my July 4th wishes.<br /><br />My father's side of the family has a family reunion every Fourth of July (well, we just kinda barge in since my part of the family is really a brother of the person the reunion is named after - but if we know there's gonna be good food and we can somehow get invited, we're there)!<br /><br />Anyway, this was a special reunion ~ the 100th consecutive year it has been held!!! <span style="font-size:130%;color:#000099;">100 years!!!</span> Can you believe that?<br /><br />For such a special occasion, I decided to decorate the closest of my female relatives with special necklaces. That's where the procrastination comes in. I've had the idea rolling around my head for several months. I knew I wanted to make something with pictures, and I knew I wanted a necklace with some embellishments such as beads and a patriotic theme.<br /><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnHlW7HwgA9l4GSe5YvQDBuKsZUwDcEixNs7-lOPOnbFBznQSeuVCacgoBmndaYgfi6y-bXnWSBLWxnF-Es1npeyxQuAzigjyjsC8VHHaxWEnRVSdQHxR2DMi2XzFnMJfOWvs2gkUoIvRm/s1600-h/Mom+and+Dad+Wedding.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361357581943682626" style="WIDTH: 158px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 173px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnHlW7HwgA9l4GSe5YvQDBuKsZUwDcEixNs7-lOPOnbFBznQSeuVCacgoBmndaYgfi6y-bXnWSBLWxnF-Es1npeyxQuAzigjyjsC8VHHaxWEnRVSdQHxR2DMi2XzFnMJfOWvs2gkUoIvRm/s400/Mom+and+Dad+Wedding.jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3jyzfOD0ORQlLJLCTcKp8H9CzKS-t_l0kyNYTn1B_3X6Iwss5KxeMVuC91G2CEuitQXTeVUqDhORSd1HQlZZ6X5ZQEXjCRV1GnuuWuAqsqS41i4DId7-ng7c36hHPT98lHGsOgLIXql1u/s1600-h/Farris+and+Anna+Mae.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361357025113887890" style="WIDTH: 176px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 176px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3jyzfOD0ORQlLJLCTcKp8H9CzKS-t_l0kyNYTn1B_3X6Iwss5KxeMVuC91G2CEuitQXTeVUqDhORSd1HQlZZ6X5ZQEXjCRV1GnuuWuAqsqS41i4DId7-ng7c36hHPT98lHGsOgLIXql1u/s400/Farris+and+Anna+Mae.jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTQJbJDKaj1GzaB_tPXc1l85JNmcpfAmc6KoplQbsvv32RfMCQRT1YUZC2ITR9QksK8uNX1dRePHhxj-fdSzPmeSatXQm1OFl2kKhjfn_c8hwNMp9WKsqgB85QXW44vIm3OAn6d7GC4qDx/s1600-h/farris.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361357881074085122" style="WIDTH: 221px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 178px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTQJbJDKaj1GzaB_tPXc1l85JNmcpfAmc6KoplQbsvv32RfMCQRT1YUZC2ITR9QksK8uNX1dRePHhxj-fdSzPmeSatXQm1OFl2kKhjfn_c8hwNMp9WKsqgB85QXW44vIm3OAn6d7GC4qDx/s400/farris.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><p align="left">These pictures are of my parents, grandparents and great grand parents ~ don't you just love those old, old pictures? I just don't understand why nobody ever smiled way back then?!?</p><div align="left">Well, I made a list of my closest female relatives and tallied up the number of necklaces I would need to make ~ a total of 15 (including myself, of course). Whew, so I did some more tallying and when I multiplied the number of photo charms per necklace by the number of necklaces - well, that was pretty ambitious! Especially when there's only 2 weeks before the reunion!! I began gathering my materials, cutting the glass, amassing the pictures I would use and, of course, not allowing myself enough time for any glitches. But, I actually got all the necklaces made, put them in pretty little boxes and even had time to make patriotic tags for each little box.</div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">Here's the front and back of the final product!</div><div align="center"><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnJvv9NZ5QTzIoMbOJWM-uy6Mc6ohEhvnt-QjoZ9XQ7uH9Ftce8YSmXGMTcvhUnvn2hRlyTazFERbYb84F3ph_6uhEd4dUvw1dhVEvqBxCQHFfsq6_JuygYgP1_k6wOlZXcCWyUYepMPsE/s1600-h/front.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361359713451277730" style="WIDTH: 277px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 394px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnJvv9NZ5QTzIoMbOJWM-uy6Mc6ohEhvnt-QjoZ9XQ7uH9Ftce8YSmXGMTcvhUnvn2hRlyTazFERbYb84F3ph_6uhEd4dUvw1dhVEvqBxCQHFfsq6_JuygYgP1_k6wOlZXcCWyUYepMPsE/s400/front.jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqFP6XK6rR2zWQRMNnGWaKPUD7lQlKMfnUkxh4toJ6EX8RRSE81xzOmFn363epDahAReuvhMHK7PvodtPljAbpq62dr8cxsLgYPMjIRkKKUOJUN9W0r6jrEcRUGrxt2IkuJwS86d4Um3Eg/s1600-h/back.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361359765529134834" style="WIDTH: 279px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 394px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqFP6XK6rR2zWQRMNnGWaKPUD7lQlKMfnUkxh4toJ6EX8RRSE81xzOmFn363epDahAReuvhMHK7PvodtPljAbpq62dr8cxsLgYPMjIRkKKUOJUN9W0r6jrEcRUGrxt2IkuJwS86d4Um3Eg/s400/back.jpg" border="0" /></a></div><div align="center"></div><div align="left">Of course, some of the necklaces had different pictures, but you get the general idea. The customer doesn't have a computer (or even a cell phone), but asked her friend to send me an e-mail and request a catalog. Well, I didn't have a catalog, but I printed out several designs and mailed my little "catalog" to her.<br /><br /><div><div><div>Several months later, I received a call and she was ready to place an order. We discussed the details and she ordered four pendants to be made from her grandmother's china. She mailed two little saucers (one is pictured below) and I went to work!</div><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQGk2kY02biIweL1m8XVO4nukOZSCI2SjiFhQXYTj_2qSi9rcQTNTRtgyc-AaWkKv6ocud5a1Bt2zx95d0geNt5UlBTeuBn4f6xjbSkKnD0_FIA0nYWjreY7pGgBK4A9vQyZKAFS8kDReh/s1600-h/green+plate+1.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5338716951493805522" style="WIDTH: 221px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 209px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQGk2kY02biIweL1m8XVO4nukOZSCI2SjiFhQXYTj_2qSi9rcQTNTRtgyc-AaWkKv6ocud5a1Bt2zx95d0geNt5UlBTeuBn4f6xjbSkKnD0_FIA0nYWjreY7pGgBK4A9vQyZKAFS8kDReh/s320/green+plate+1.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><div>I was a little apprehensive because the saucers had very little design to them ~ just the white ridges along the edge. My customer asked that each of the pendants have the rim design on them. So, this was quite a challenge!</div><br /><div>Here is a picture of my designs drawn on the saucers. As you can see, I was able to get quite a few pendants from just one little saucer! She said that a kitchen cabinet fell off her wall resulting in much of her wedding pottery handmade in Poland crashing to the floor. (Thoughts running through my mind are: What do you mean the cabinet fell off the wall? How does that happen? Do I need to check all my cabinets for possible wall detachment?") Can you imagine walking into your kitchen and seeing this on your floor? What a heartbreaking sight!! If you want to see her blog about the incident, take a look here: <a href="http://www.xanga.com/pinkgigglepants/678357208/one-way-to-remodel/">http://www.xanga.com/pinkgigglepants/678357208/one-way-to-remodel/</a></div><br /><div>Well, have no fear ~ Broken China Treasures can (almost) make everything right (or at least turn that trash into treasure). Although you would rather have your china or pottery in one piece, once it is broken, there's not a whole lot you can do except ~ call in a professional!</div><br /><div></div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLtXNLiwrb1_zNMvA_wXppXyORV5hC_w-15SJ-A6-nov-ojNK6Q4pEynTP0U7u0UeU1hR70IwU-K4ZQx7MTtli-61ZV656Iw_ZLqe12OmrJSKl3MhhvvCoSdpwqPz5lKF0uWipsp9spTlK/s1600-h/100_2220.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292077169883874994" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 175px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLtXNLiwrb1_zNMvA_wXppXyORV5hC_w-15SJ-A6-nov-ojNK6Q4pEynTP0U7u0UeU1hR70IwU-K4ZQx7MTtli-61ZV656Iw_ZLqe12OmrJSKl3MhhvvCoSdpwqPz5lKF0uWipsp9spTlK/s200/100_2220.jpg" border="0" /></a>That's exactly what she did!! We worked out an agreement and I made a special souvenir of her precious pottery and got to keep the leftover shards (which was a lot)! To the left is a picture of what I made for her ~ a 5 tile bracelet (plus an extra little trinket)! With a few of the leftover pieces, I have made a business card holder, several pairs of earrings and some pendants. There's plenty of pottery left to make many, many more items and they will be showing up in my Etsy shop very soon.<br /><br /></div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib_AN3hzzYkJqcFQpbIbY9Lm-aQi3yP0bUTnsWDjlLtRGL-4Q9xaAdweuoZzEl7sJ9afealP1_G7xm5TFjYaOphNEqwDe4KaAC4v13dud7u5YcRmq1DD5IophkuEFSqZJXLBpdvyn-fp7m/s1600-h/polish+pottery.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292075938440909634" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 188px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib_AN3hzzYkJqcFQpbIbY9Lm-aQi3yP0bUTnsWDjlLtRGL-4Q9xaAdweuoZzEl7sJ9afealP1_G7xm5TFjYaOphNEqwDe4KaAC4v13dud7u5YcRmq1DD5IophkuEFSqZJXLBpdvyn-fp7m/s200/polish+pottery.JPG" border="0" /></a>Wait, there's more to this story!! As I was looking for some props to take photos of the finished jewelry, I opened a cabinet door and pulled out a piece that a friend had given to me years ago. This particular piece is called a "cheese lady". I had forgotten I had it and suddenly a feeling of <em>deja vu</em> washed over me. I mean the chills kind of <em>deja vu</em>!! I turned the piece over and guess what was on the back stamp ~ yep ~ "Handmade in Poland". My cheese lady is the same pottery that I had just cut up and made into a bracelet!! Here she is and, amazingly, she has the same expression on her face as I did when I re-discovered her!!<br /></div></div><br /><div></div></div></div>Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-61091591140417791122009-01-09T16:07:00.000-08:002009-01-10T10:16:41.676-08:00Happy New Year and Happy New Beginnings!!!Well, I've decided to get back into blogging. Maybe it's the New Year and the start of a new half century (for me) ~ I really don't like those birthdays that end in "0"....but I have resolved to be more diligent in my blogging efforts. So.....here goes!<br /><br /><br /><div>November and December were extremely busy months for me. A last minute special order for angels for Christmas gifts put me somewhat behind, but I was able to finish everything that needed to be done and all is well.<br /></div><br /><div></div><div>I was contacted by a very sweet lady who had her Grandmother's collectible plates (which were beautiful, by the way). These plates were blue with white winter and Christmas scenes depicted on them. She wanted to present her family members with angels made from the plates. As I normally do with a special order, I asked her to outline with tape or paper the areas that she wanted for the angel dresses. After receiving the plates, what she had outlined was larger than I normally make for my angel dresses. This only presented a problem because the nuggets I use for the heads usually come in one general size. After I scrounged around in my supplies, I found slightly larger nuggets and made the dresses the approximate size the customer requested. I was glad because smaller dresses would not have done the china justice.<br /></div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjKyoC1sToIP2gSLEVkKyn-V9rMVr68Mr0YRlleC9VvmUSvYcLJNnUItJR59OP9_jEFUgQ4eYgU-ZOKxAhoRhme7Z9OE9TU9taCXWcv7YxjErS732AJ5OhMSyWG2nBkfE_mQmXBPeYCVLp/s1600-h/lesley+angels.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289458614676854338" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 110px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjKyoC1sToIP2gSLEVkKyn-V9rMVr68Mr0YRlleC9VvmUSvYcLJNnUItJR59OP9_jEFUgQ4eYgU-ZOKxAhoRhme7Z9OE9TU9taCXWcv7YxjErS732AJ5OhMSyWG2nBkfE_mQmXBPeYCVLp/s200/lesley+angels.JPG" border="0" /></a>So, here is just a sampling of the 10 finished angels. The customer was quite pleased with the outcome and told me that when her husband saw them he was quite impressed. (When a man is impressed with a project like this, what better compliment could I get)?</div><div><br /></div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDGSnOirQSdQzjsROmqFPEMsNlm-b_Up9zP5VLdFB381uB9a5CSsQ5mMv7UKC7AfX7Y-Qf2l_jYRuSW2JxFMF9_CZwbtm4EiYNuCxJt61Q1P1J8W500gkFyVlM41VHpEmaHnoiPqVkZ2gP/s1600-h/NYC+skyline.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289482324859094322" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 164px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDGSnOirQSdQzjsROmqFPEMsNlm-b_Up9zP5VLdFB381uB9a5CSsQ5mMv7UKC7AfX7Y-Qf2l_jYRuSW2JxFMF9_CZwbtm4EiYNuCxJt61Q1P1J8W500gkFyVlM41VHpEmaHnoiPqVkZ2gP/s200/NYC+skyline.JPG" border="0" /></a></div><br /><br /><div>I also had some personal projects to complete: For my step daughter, who lives in NYC, I designed and created a stained glass panel of the New York City Skyline including the Twin Towers. I haven't done many design/create projects, so I think this turned out ok. Of course, I would make some changes if I were to make it again. (I'm always tweaking and not quite pleased with the finished product).<br /><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNhXL72dzPWjE_G42UfmjVpTV_rFB9KBdP55RzAnqz96Wv2MNUZfHE-fq8AsKX8oAsIX41tFJtTPOndu4zpx90Nl_Q2bXxmTHts4dsDAYNQq6INMGU-izScjZdXJZcr08iYSGvvOvApADH/s1600-h/fish+sculpture.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289482852011924482" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 152px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNhXL72dzPWjE_G42UfmjVpTV_rFB9KBdP55RzAnqz96Wv2MNUZfHE-fq8AsKX8oAsIX41tFJtTPOndu4zpx90Nl_Q2bXxmTHts4dsDAYNQq6INMGU-izScjZdXJZcr08iYSGvvOvApADH/s200/fish+sculpture.JPG" border="0" /></a>A fish sculpture: In my family, among my brothers, their wives and the adult "kids", we draw names for Christmas. I drew my sister-in-law, Deb, and she knew exactly what I would give her. During the summer, she had traveled down south and visited a street fair. She saw a "fish sculpture" that she fell in love with. I couldn't quite duplicate it, but this is my interpretation. Yes, that's real driftwood. My mother and I went to the St. Marks Lighthouse on a balmy and dreary day (actually the Saturday before Christmas) to search for driftwood and we picked up some great treasures. I plan to make some other items with the leftover driftwood.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDDZ-3NOg8xbhMCpDPeupxyuuuoaRBP19PtW0MO2Oynrgekn7fW7LK08DsZRFbjV_2miRPDLsAYM300K9ppAwJqZRAel7-pkM3raS1usiIk-VVqYTdsXEmkrxa08eA0bbs474BKtD2ZkSG/s1600-h/100_2137.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289483438813305746" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDDZ-3NOg8xbhMCpDPeupxyuuuoaRBP19PtW0MO2Oynrgekn7fW7LK08DsZRFbjV_2miRPDLsAYM300K9ppAwJqZRAel7-pkM3raS1usiIk-VVqYTdsXEmkrxa08eA0bbs474BKtD2ZkSG/s200/100_2137.jpg" border="0" /></a>I had been to the St. Marks Lighthouse only once in the 30 odd years I've lived in Tallahassee. It's only about a 45 minute drive. I don't know why we sometimes travel hundreds of miles to see beautiful sites across this country when most of it is right here in our own backyards. (Oops, that sounded a little like Dorothy, didn't it?) Anyway, while we were at St. Marks, there was a flock of birds sitting on some old pilings and I thought they were quite photogenic. No, I didn't take any pics of the lighthouse - that will be another day ~ preferably a sunny one!!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifBRhL1VBn1lojkhog9AL1n3q0mJ3Fv_N5BGdm6lRBklV9Bx_VzzYda5rBBLevKHjdRaSN9RQt3j68KMT-IoX9cMteopcRhGkGfMRXMfZGpN9E-YDS_ydIhow0US3wmyvhgOahBKsJnJy3/s1600-h/Aiden.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289485808104670450" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 127px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifBRhL1VBn1lojkhog9AL1n3q0mJ3Fv_N5BGdm6lRBklV9Bx_VzzYda5rBBLevKHjdRaSN9RQt3j68KMT-IoX9cMteopcRhGkGfMRXMfZGpN9E-YDS_ydIhow0US3wmyvhgOahBKsJnJy3/s200/Aiden.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />I made one other very special project for my new granddaughter, Alyx. Another one of my own designs. Unfortunately, I didn't snap a picture of it before it made it's way home to Ohio. But, to give you an idea of what it looked like, here's one I made for a good friend for her son. Of course, the one for Alyx was not blue, but a gorgeous dark fuschia. As soon as the new parents have time, I'll have them send a pic of it in her room and add it to the blog.<br /><br /><br /><br />So, as you can see, I was very, very busy during December! I think all these projects allow me to excuse myself from blogging for a month!!<br /><br /><br />OK. From the looks of this post, it must appear I have plenty of time to write. Not so. A very nice Etsian had a whole cabinet fall off her wall and, unfortunately, the cabinet contained her special hand made pottery from Poland that she received for her wedding.<br /><br /><br />Stay tuned for the results from this atrocious accident.......Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-47412799805984688172008-11-29T10:36:00.001-08:002008-11-29T11:46:32.566-08:00New Items!!I've been busy creating ~ obviously, since I definitely haven't been blogging ~ and I just wanted to show a few things here. FayWe have so been looking forward to getting a tropical storm this year. I don't wish this on the people in south Florida, but we desperately need the rain.<br /><br />Last year, restoration on our "lake" began (it's a long, long story but I guess it needed to be done). I say "lake" because it's not really a lake ~ more like a small pond. Anyway, it was drained and scraped and dirt was moved around and a little dirt was actually hauled away. This is what we were left with:<br /><br /><br /><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237441372252736818" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv8xLGTY_-OLCeaR60YoLmj5MXD7VliUAqnP_TDDlT0qdRIKm2uqjlY5X1UqYX_1q0-Y6c4FIryljzTCQ0w4IEH3_vTM5NR5LplY4e8BVpO6ONBEMC7TtfCVFOHTycejdpa6NZ0CQeOkCY/s320/Lake+2.JPG" border="0" />Of course, with the small amount of rain we've gotten this summer, it was just enough to allow renegade vegetation to grow. Very sad looking.</p><p>So, now you know why we are looking forward to T.S. Fay. I hope she leaves us with a lot of rain, at least enough to cover up the dirt mound left in the middle of the lake so at least it looks like a lake and not a marsh.</p><p><br /> </p>Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-12409429434682449112008-08-22T13:02:00.000-07:002008-08-22T13:23:34.210-07:00The OwlIt seems we are having a bumper crop of frogs this year and apparently it is great fodder for the owls. For a few nights I noticed two owls hanging around and they appeared to be agitated with each other. I assume they are a little territorial and wanted to establish their own "hunting grounds". One won out and has been doing some great hunting and eating for the past week. I was sitting on the back porch on the phone with my son one evening and The Owl did a very, very close fly by. I'm not sure he realized I was sitting there, but it flew so close in front of me that I was startled. It could not have been more than 8-10 feet from me! <div><div></div><br /><div>So, I decided that I needed to get this great predator on film. I took quite a few shots and was very surprised that he/she allowed me to get as close as I did. Here's his/hers great pose for me:</div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237439581235894418" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXzgldqk4sN8FGyFN3qleisaOhIDsny8IO0iThOTUgYULuEvgg5B_IpusQmWwnU-_QTBrk5YYwy-aEMdKIx-Ij7ZJoA17nmF-5qF7QbkeoXfBe7IS9sOCP7kuJHX0A2mQ74puml3AqUZGo/s320/owl.JPG" border="0" /></div>Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-12366273975796979762008-08-05T10:09:00.000-07:002008-08-13T15:39:35.329-07:00Show Mode and China DustWell, it's that time of year! Time to get into "show mode"! That's what Mr. China calls it when I am frantically working my poor little fingers to the bone getting all my stock ready for the fall shows around here. The garage has a thin layer of china dust everywhere! The living room is converted to the "solder station" (yes, I put it away each night, but drag it out the next day to work, work, work.) Also, the "office" is in shambles because I have my makeshift photo cube set up and jewelry all over the place. But, Mr. China is very patient and forgiving and knows this is something I must do to keep sane.<br /><br /><br />About the china dust, it gets everywhere! I need to come up with some type of barrier to try to keep it contained. This is what I cut two weekends ago:<br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234131163172700642" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0A3HqV4_faDGsHnJXd7ieHA77AfpvMzBTc60gB4iQID4lsHjbSq_Q_fGgot3aSXhO04wu9Fob5bvFUMDR7U5aUK8lCv1dvSpVVFzmixiCRIsaM815mAvqxdoTlHMfwia4bMrJxQWGauRv/s320/100_1139.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br />Not very pretty at the moment, but after I smooth out the edges (yes, a little more china dust was flying through the air), clean it up and foil the edges, this is what I have:<br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234131490258668306" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDEFPJV56sBlZ0t858CpflNk4nsCx1-VlUH_UUPlPYgx9AEtHpQvOoCe5ngnMni_-bHJaER1Dd10wcEKKKehEXMMc8Mdk0Dptmj5IwIHUGgCefjdh29LfXCEe6gVp_oDe_7WU9kNj174ik/s320/100_1145.jpg" border="0" /><br />Now the little china pieces have to go to the "solder station". Stay tuned so that you can get a first glimpse at the finished products.<br /><br />~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<br /><br />Oops - a little interruption ~~ Although I'm in "show mode", when I get that call from my son asking if I can keep my grandson on Saturday ~~ screeeeeech ~~all work comes to a grinding halt! There's nothing more important than seeing that cute little two year old and it's unbelievable how much he changes in just two weeks! His newest trick ~ opening a door, grabbing each doorknob, picking up his feet and ....wheeee...."look Grammy, I'm swingin'!" He is just hilarious! Can't wait to see what his next "trick" will be!Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-5039850525523607142008-08-02T10:13:00.001-07:002008-08-02T10:19:13.418-07:00What happened to the Beatrix Potter Jewelry????I'm so sorry to have teased you with my last post about the Beatrix Potter jewelry. It certainly was not intentional. If any of you have ever spent any time in the forums at <a href="http://etsy.com/">Etsy.com</a>, you know there is a lot of discussion about copyright infringement and how wrong it is. I agree. That being said, I have removed my Beatrix Potter jewelry. I have written the company to ask permission to continue selling these items and if I get the permission (granted I don't have to pay dearly for royalties), I will have them back.<br /><br />If you are interested in this line of jewelry, please leave me a message and I will be sure to contact you when (and if) I have the permission to sell.<br /><br />Thank you for your understanding.<br /><br />~~ TanyaBroken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359950446733112003.post-67251872130256551102008-07-25T15:25:00.000-07:002008-12-11T06:01:09.853-08:00Newly Listed Items (and Preview of What's to Come Next!)<div><div><div><div><div><div><div>I have been busy making more of my Beatrix Potter jewelry. I'm just going to wander my way through this business of blogging. I'm sure I'll make quite a few mistakes along the way but I hope to make a lot of friends in the process.<br /><br /><strong><span style="color:#330099;">Broken China Treasures - What is This?</span></strong><br /><br />Well, I take broken china, like this:<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226006040857902242" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 393px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 236px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="225" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt0jk_MV9T6hluNWASgpJBMmO4xRLwU3xwqfACOR2Iq3LSyktMCZTh1cOxEy0cta5vbUvOavS26ZHMiKVIZc_23wBWAoAAAPhAO6uA8aKsM-opMpq5kxQdmhTEeZk7S_UlwHOMqCuu81tQ/s320/broken+china.JPG" width="301" border="0" /><br />And create precious treasures, like this:<br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226006809146436386" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 338px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 290px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="335" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnFok98FXNx5ktuTP5O_R81ebvtiLSsrxcMHiaSncJntC7XdUOEhDEhXCLErDyil1uDgE-GrTnUDJzpCqahwZbsDnZ1qHn1dBv7MO_8NsTYRhrEEpzDLmpXKm13rokfZjLKYZrxozAwyvn/s320/finished+china.JPG" width="415" border="0" />As you can see, I create angels, jewelry and even business card holders. If you are interested in any of my items, please feel free to contact me through this blog or check out my etsy shop at <a href="http://www.brokenchinatreasures.etsy.com/">http://www.brokenchinatreasures.etsy.com/</a></p><p>If you have a treasured piece of broken, chipped or cracked china that you can't bear to toss away and keep shoved in the back of your cabinet, bring it out in the open as a piece of jewelry or angel to enjoy more frequently. Remember, it's not doing you any good if you hide it! </p><p></p><p>I'm always looking for unique pieces and use whatever I can get my hands on. I prefer working with fine china or bone china, but if I come across some pretty pottery or stoneware, I'll certainly try it. I search garage sales, antique sales, auctions, etc. and even try to find some great deals at TJ Maxx or Marshall's. </p><p>Please keep checking this blog to see my latest creations.<br /></p><p></p>Broken China Treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17983437393168433688noreply@blogger.com0
